THERE IS NOT ONE BEST WAY TO STUDY A LANGUAGE. Some have very good "sound memory". Some have very good speech articulation skills. Some have an analytical approach. A lot may also depend on what your original native language is. A lot also depends on your knowledge of metalinguistics (I know it sounds scary, but it means how well you know the grammar/syntax of your own native language.)
Learning a foreign language is extremely difficult especially when you don't put the effort in. When an upcoming exam is approaching I believe you should really practice pronouncing the words over and over again until you have memorized it. You have to learn the correct pronunciation of the language. You also have to work on reading and writing Italian. After every lesson I recommend going over what you learned. You shouldn't cram everything into a couple nights, because it won't work. On this prior quiz, I feel as if I studied the right material, but not just not enough. Studying for Italian isn't like studying for a history exam, its very different. If you want to learn a new language and exceed in the class you really have to put all of your effort it and actually try.
ReplyDeleteFor this past quiz I felt that my I studied the material well, but i just didn't study enough of it. As if I overestimated myself and underestimated the quiz. For the future I am going to change the time I spend studying and make sure I spend more time going over things. I'm also going to spend more time over the week then try to cram it into one or two nights.
ReplyDeleteI have a certain way of studying that works for me and I will continue to do that method. I have good memorization skills, however something I wanna try is seeing the word and a visualization of that word. That way my quality of studying is better.
ReplyDeleteI work and remember through sound. I was really struggling to remember the days of the week so I recorded myself saying the words. The act of recording/saying, repeating and listening really helped me to remember the words. The sounds create musical patterns in my head which help with the memorization. I also made up a little tune to go with the alphabet, which really stuck in my mind. Like learning music, little and often is key when studying a language, rather than trying to cram everything in one go!
ReplyDeleteFor the quiz I studied by using the class website and repeating words outloud. I study best when I am actively studying. For example like saying the words out loud or rewriting them. I feel that I studied well for the past quiz.
ReplyDeleteFor the quiz I studied from the website and try to use some YouTube videos that could help with sound. I feel like I need to pay attention more to the sounds of the words and go to write the words down, and takes time to really review everything. Even though I did study for the quiz but I missed a lot practice that could is help me better.
ReplyDeleteFor this quiz, I wish I would have spent more time studying and reviewing for it. In the future, I'm going to set out larger chunks of my time towards this language and practice it more! I feel when it comes to language learning, the best way is repetition and actively finding ways to use it. For anyone that needs help with pronunciation, you can use Forvo.com which you can put in almost any word and people from that country will pronounce it for you and you repeat it. It is a lifesaver for spoken tests!
ReplyDeleteFor the quiz, I mostly studied from the review sheet that was sent to us as, well as some of the lessons on the website. Although I studied I feel like the amount of studying time that I put in wasn't enough and that many of the information that I studied didn't stick as well as I may have wanted it to. In the future, I will set more time out for studying the materials while also going over things that may seem unclear to me. I also need to pay more attention to the pronunciation of the words. A suggestion for the classmates, is to not do all of your studying the day of or day before the test because you may forget more than you actually remember.
ReplyDeleteLearning a new language means incorporating the study into every day of ones life. I studied for this quiz. I studied one day and then left the material for three days. I was not consistent in the slightest and I did not apply as focus to understanding the material and relating the words to the other languages I speak, which is a helpful learning tactic for me. I did not focus at all but simply mechanically memorized. I have taken extensive precaution after the day of the quiz to practice everyday. I repeat the vocabulary and sentence structure to myself and look up all the nouns and verbs that interest me, things that I like/ like to do. I really do want to learn Italian, and I understand that I am granted a great amount of resources to make this happen.
